The Funeral of Graham Drew

Over 250 turned out to say farewell to the chairman of Newquay Football Club, Graham Drew, who died suddenly at the age of 69 at the end of January.

The funeral service, conducted by Rev Canon Michael Adams took place in the open air at Newquay FC's home ground - Mount Wise.

Five individuals from the local community spoke at the funeral and all outlined what a massive impact Graham's generosity and public spirited attitude had on them and the community. As president of Newquay Lions Club Graham was involved in numerous fundraising events and was praticularly keen on supporting the development of young people.

His freinds from Lions Clubs International, Andy Cole (Newquay Club) and Colin Ransley (Towan Blystra Club) spoke of how greatly Graham would be missed and Derek Cherry (Newquay AFC) plus Mike Jelbert (Newquay Cricket Club) gave personal trubutes to the hard work he had put into those sporting establishments.

Lesley Clarke finished the tributes with a few words about Graham's contributions as a school governor at Trenance Infants School. The funeral service concluded with a solo rendition of 'The White Rose' by fellow Lion Bob Morgan which was an emotional but fitting tribute to a man admired by so many.
