Pupils´ class act play

Pupils from Newquay Tretherras School gave a performance with a difference at The Hexagon. All the proceeds from the evening of drama went to the charity CLIC. Performances from the Anne Frank Diary and also Bouncers, Shakers and Blue Remembered Hills were all part of the event. Drama teacher Andy Blake said it was an 'absolutely fantastic' night.

Trerice Manor was spruced up in traditional Christmas style. The centrepiece was a huge garland hung from the middle of the hall. Julie Burley of the Manor said 'the hall is looking wonderful'. Celebrated chef David Turner made some delicious treats for the event.

Trenance Riding Stables Presentations

Riders raised money for charity by completing a 20 mile ride. The evnt raised over £2,000 for Cancer Research UK, Newquay Hydrotherapy Pool and St John Ambulance. Organiser Janet Burt-Crocker said over 30 riders took part - the youngest being 9 years old. Mayor of Newquay John Rainbow made the presentation. The evnt was held at The Godolphin Arms Hotel, Newquay who put on an excellent buffet.

Aid Charity is thanked for dedication to community. St John Ambulance held a special presentation to mark the yearly inspction by the commissioner. Divisional Superintendent Kris Sullivan received a commendation prior to moving to Surrey. Simon Goldworthy will be taking over. Emma Jane Trebilcock, duty coordinator said it 'was a fantastic evening'. Awards were also handed to Stacey Morris who collected the Mary Spicer Memorial Trophy for the staff member who put in the most hours. Ben Cooper picked up the youth award for county cadet of the year. Richard Grosvenor was promoted to corporal.

Restormel Mayor Denise Mutton visited Newquay Hospital as part of a whistle stop Christmas Tour of hospitals and retirement homes.

Olivia kicks her way to the top

Indian Queens is hailing its very own Karate Kid following the fresh success of Olivia Orchard. The feisty ten year old was recently crowned kick boxing World Champion and has built on her success to gain the title of U.K. Champion. Olivia travelled to Malta to compete in the World United Martial Arts (WUMA) event.

St Mawgan in Pydar mother and daughter lit on the idea of festooning their adjoining houses with a spectacular array of Christmas lights in aid of charity. Jackie Parkyn and mother Val have raised hundreds of pounds for Children's Hospice South West over the last six years as they have added more novelty decorations each Christmas.
