The Cornwall Federation of Women's Institutes celebrated Christmas at Newquay Wesley Church. The Fistral Ayres Handbell Choir played and Nan Collier, chairman of the Federation, thanked Newquay WI for all their efforts.

St Newlyn East Band played at The Tea Rooms in Trerice Manor near Newquay before Christmas 2006. Band musical director Barry Skinner said 'It was a very enjoyable day'. Junior Band Member Rebecca Smith also works at Trerice and played Away in a Manger on the trmbone.

Over 400 children visited Santa when he visited newquay by train. He was welcomed by a choir from Newquay Junior School and Genevieve and Luke from Bishops School sang a duet. Santa held court in his grotto at Trenance Cottages where he was helped by Snow Queen Sue Miles and elves Annette Miles and Melanie Miles as well as snow maiden Saffron Miles-Dupree. Chairman of the Friends of Trenance Cottages Ted O'Dell thanked those involved.

Newquay Hospital Christmas Fayre took place to raise money for the wards. The event raised over £900. Organiser Stella Jenkin MBE said 'the evnt was a great success'.

Reflections of Christmas took place in howling gales. Organiser Tracey Mancini said 'we battled with the gales ... I think everyone enjoyed themselves'. Over 200 people turned up at Mayfield Recreation Ground, Newquay as Mary and Joseph arrived on a donkey.

Newquay Lions Club held their annual Christmas auction of items destined, in most cases, for someone's Christmas Day stocking. The event, held at Newquay's Griffin Hotel, saw over 100 lots auctioned off to the highest bidders with numerous cuddly toys, drinks, curios and books going under the hammer of Lion Andy Cole. The evening, which included a free buffet for those attending, raised almost £1,000 with local causes being the beneficiaries.

Five members of Lane Theatre all befell injuries to their legs. Sheila Lines, the theatre's publicity officer, Doreen Wilinson, Kate Walker, Susie Bundy and Dorothy Long are all hoping to still be able to take part in the next production - 'Steel Magnolias' which runs in February 2007.

Newquay shows the way by shunning PC Brigade to toast Christmas in multi-faith way. The International Christmas Extravaganza will take place outside Jackpot amusements, Cliff Road, Newquay. Vasant Maru of Newquay's Maharajah Restaurant, Brian Wood of FOOCHUR, Peter Wood of Jackpot Amusements and other local helpers will take part. Father Stephen Geddes of the Most Holy Trinity Church , Fareed Ahmad of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association of Devon and Cornwall, Lorraine Harrison of Newquay Chamber of Commerce and Tourism and Reverend Michael Adams of St Michaels Church, will all take part.

Treading the boards in Panto Hit

Around 30 children aged 5 to 14 took part in a panto held at St Michael's Church Hall, Newquay. 'Panto Mania' had characters such as Dick Whittington, Puss in Boots and other fairy tales. Teacher Stephanie O'Neill runs Cornwall Dance and Drama School since moving down from London where she worked as an actress in West End musicals including Andrew Lloyd-Webber's hit Cats. Work begins on a new production at the Hall for Cornwall in 2007. Stephanie can be contacted on 01637 860397.

Carols are Guiding Light

Newquay's Scouting and Guiding communities came together for an annual carol service at St Michael's Church. Brownies, guides, rainbows, cubs, beavers and scouts took part. Katie Freeman was enrolled as a young leader in guiding, Cynthia Tonkin received a good service award and Sue Pascoe was given a 5 year service award. Guiding admintrator Val Coad said 'The church was packed'.
