Newquay-born cyclist stops in during epic ride

Cornish born Nick Giles, 50, a former professional cyclist set himself a challenge - to cycle from the toe of Italy, to Lands End here in Cornwall - the toe of the UK to help raise money and awareness for the Pancreatic Cancer Research Trust.

The challenge has seen him travel over three continents, starting at Scilla Reggio de Calabre in Italy.

On the final leg of his trip, he stopped off in Newquay to re-visit the town he grew up in and visit some old friends from his school days.

"What was really special was arriving in Newquay and seeing Sue and Karen after so many years." said Nick. "They came out in miserable weather to stand on the Barrowcliffs to see me ride in and then present us with a lovely bottle of champagne to celebrate with."

Nick completed the challenge, arriving at Lands End on the 22nd August at 6pm. He completed it in 92 hours, 10 mins and 22 secs.

For more information about the challenge and how he did it, more details are on his website at www.nickgileschallenge.com
