Premier showing of a new DVD depicting some of the background scenes and stories from 1967 when The Beatles embarked on the filing of Magical Mystery Tour and visited the South West of England, staying at the Atlantic Hotel in Newquay. The premier took place at the resort's Victoria Hotel on 20 August 2008.
A church service held at St Columb Minor Parish Church remembered the victims of the tragic fire a year before at Newquay's Penhallow Hotel in which three people lost their lives
Fund-raising at Mawgan Porth was hit by an outbreak of norovirus preventing the planned ball race in the river. But several hundred pounds were raised through a raffle anyway and local councillor, Pat Harvey, drew the winning ball as well as presenting a Restormel Council cheque to St Mawgan Cabaret Group for £250.

On Tues 1/7/08 Rotarian Mike Beresford was inaugurated as the President of Newquay Rotary Club. Mike is a local business man running his own fire prevention and detection business. He received the chains of office from outgoing president Jim Coumbe. Mike Said "It is a great honour to take on the role of president and I look forward to a successful year helping local and national charities".
Marathon Runner Sonya Morris ran in the 2008 Flora London Marathon and raised over £500 for Newquay RNLI.
