St Breward Revel Service 2014

St Breward Revel Service 2014

St Breward Church annual Revel Service, Sunday 9th February 2014. Contact vicar Rev Canon Sherry Bryan on 01028 851829.

The invitation went out 'Come and Revel with us', and the Church was full, and there was revelling and a service. The annual St Breward Revel Service consisted of a number of individuals and groups performing or giving a talk or reading. With St Breward Silver Band providing the music for the service, there was a poetry reading by villager Christine Woolf of her poem 'The Stray' which won her the 2013 County WI poetry competition, for the 4th time. The St Breward Handbell Ringers then delightfully played 3 tunes, followed by a fascinating talk by Pamela Bousfield on the history of St Breward's Patron Saint, St Branwallader, in whose honour the congregation were all revelling. Finally, the St Breward Guides and Brownies made sure that no one could forget Branwallader's name by arranging a Happy Birthday song for him, which the congregation enthusiastically joined by way of a 'round'. Church PCC member Caroline Hooper commented, "It was wonderful to have St Breward Silver Band there with their music filling the Church and encouraging the hymn singing, as well as all the other talented and informed contributors to this popular service. All in all, a wonderful celebration followed by a free tea in the village hall, with a massive table laid out it's length to cater for the large congregation. Yet again the church ladies had laid on a massive delicious spread of food and all left happy to have revelled. A big thank you to all for helping, participating and attending to make it such a success."...
