Newquay Lions held a sandcastle competition on Towan beach on Saturday. It was judged by Newquay Mayor Lynda Cherry.
THE FRIENDS of Newquay Hospital held their annual summer fete with all this year's proceeds going towards the hospital's x-ray appeal. There were more stalls and activities then most people could remember with all of them proving very popular. Stella Jenkin, chairman of the Friends of Newquay Hospital, said: "It was great, I'm still recovering from it all and putting everything back in place. We had so much going on. There were animals from Dairyland, the police were there and all the stalls were wonderful. "The cakes were magnificent and the cream teas and coffees all went down very well and we had an ice cream van, there was so much." The hospital's appeal was not the only winner with the long-awaited draw being made for a raffle that has been running for more than six months. Vasant Maru, owner of the Maharajah and an active member of the Friends of Newquay Hospital, made the draw. First prize was two tickets to New York courtesy of Travel in Style of London, second was a 25 inch plasma screen television thanks to Dimensions and Abbotts and third place was a Panasonic home cinema system courtesy of Central Fast Food....
